Have you ever felt that there’s no one in the world who truly understands you? Everyone your age is partying, drinking alcohol and smoking, but your head is just overwhelmed with thoughts like: is there something wrong with me? Am I going to humiliate myself today? What if no one truly likes me? My friends are having fun, meanwhile I’m so weak that I cannot even get out of my bed.
You may believe that you are the problem, you don’t want to party or smoke, and you are anxious about the fact that you may be the only one who struggles with that.
SG (Sad Ghost) has these thoughts. He is lonely, and his only companion is his cat; he sometimes goes to parties, but all of the conversations he makes there are weird, so most of the time he sits on the couch and observes others with anxious thoughts in his head. But one day he finally meets someone who really understands him. Her name is “Socks” (I’m not lying, that’s the name she prefers to be called) and, apart from having similar problems to SG, she also has her own struggles. And that’s totally normal, because every human (or ghost) is different – we can’t compare our problems, backgrounds, etc.
They start spending time together, and finally they realise that they are not alone, and continue to fight with their problems and overcome their fear.
I absolutely adore this book, because it truly shows the problems most of the teenagers have to deal with. Anxiety, the feeling that you don’t fit into society, that there is something wrong with you, or just that no one has the same problems as you – so maybe you are just overexaggerating because that’s what adult tell you. But how could they understand us if they are not teenagers anymore? That’s why it is really important to look if there are others who also experience this, or to search for some psychological help provided by different organisations. It’s also this kind of book which makes you feel taken care of, that someone out there is aware of the fact that you may struggle with different things, and that it is totally normal!
If you struggle with reading long and boring books, but want to read something which is short, but also will bring some thoughts to your life, then this is a perfect book for you. If that will encourage you to read this, then know that it’s a comics, meaning that you will read it very quickly, and won’t even notice when you reach the end of the book.
I hope that the things I have mentioned here will convince you to read this, in my mind, important piece of literature!
