Have you ever taken part in a Model United Nations Conference? If not, this is an amazing opportunity for you to do so, by participating in the Atlas x Model United Nations Conference. This event is being organized by talented students from many high schools, including Jasienica (2SLO), Staszic, Kopernik, Batory, Monnet, etc. But first, we would like to inform all readers as to what an MUN really is.

MUN conferences are the students’ versions of United Nations assemblies and proceedings. In these events, they step into the shoes of delegates representing different countries, conducting discussions on global issues. It is a hands-on way for them to dip their toes into the world of diplomacy, where they not only learn about how countries interact, but also enhance their public speaking and research skills. These conferences, held at different levels, provide a unique opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the realm of international affairs, fostering a deeper understanding of global challenges.

And now, why should you choose AxMUN as the conference you should participate in? Starting from one very important thing which is necessary to underline, this MUN is different than other conferences because it is organized by high school students from a variety of schools, and is not under the supervision of individual schools, which is the case for other conferences.

The second thing that we would like to mention is our “patron”, Atlas. In Greek mythology, Atlas was one of the Titans, a race of powerful deities who preceded the Olympian gods. As a result of the Titanomachy, a war between the Titans and the Olympians, Atlas faced a unique punishment. He was condemned by Zeus to bear the weight of the heavens on his shoulders for eternity. This burden earned him the role of holding up the celestial sphere, symbolizing the sky or heavens.

We believe that creating this MUN independently is a great responsibility and requires a lot of endurance and strength, which are Atlas’ defining characteristics. By being like Atlas, we will be able to overcome all of the difficulties which seem to be unbeatable; all of the obstacles will make us stronger. This strength will lead us to create the best MUN conference possible.

Another thing that makes our MUN different from other conferences are the committees that we have chosen; some of them are present in all conferences, but there are some which, in our opinion, are unique. The first committee that we would like to introduce to you is the Guardians of Childhood Committee – it will function similar to a Future Security Council, but the delegates will be replaced with guardians. This will also be the only committee with a pre-chosen topic, as the topics of other committees will be chosen by their chairs. We have decided to share the topic with you in this article: The Guardians of Childhood confront a global crisis where children lose their wonder and belief in magic, the committee deliberates on factors causing this decline and proposes imaginative solutions to reignite the enchantment of childhood. Aside from the topic, one of the biggest (arguably) privileges bestowed upon this committee is the fact that dressing like the guardian (which you will be assigned to) will be obligatory. As you may know, most of the MUN conferences require one to wear Western business attire, but if you want to dress up and have fun, then it is the perfect committee for you.

Another special committee which we would like to introduce to you is the African Union, which is often forgotten in other MUN conferences. The African Union (AU) is a continental union and is comprised of 55 African countries; it provides a space for these nations to come together and tackle regional issues and crises. The AU promotes economic development in the region through international cooperation and pushes for the unity of African member states. The union’s mission of diplomacy also extends to mediating territorial, civil, and regional conflicts. We hope that by having this committee we will promote it in a way that will inspire other MUNs to also include it in their conferences.

Our conference will take place in Warsaw and will last from 24th till the 27th of October. It will be a rather big conference, as there will be eleven committees, and we are expecting 250 delegates. To become one of them stay tuned and follow our socials!
