A Model United Nations (or MUN for short) is an educational, yet extremely fun, simulation of the workings of The United Nations or other similar international bodies. During them young people can represent countries, organisations or other institutions and debate world issues, such as Climate Change or Political Instability.
They are regarded as beneficial for participants, since not only do they expand and diversify views, but they also allow to make friends and successfully network, despite networking being regarded as “hard” and “for grown-ups”. Moreover, MUNs help to develop public speaking and debating skills, which are highly coveted by Universities, easing getting into one.
Poland is a country with arguably the most MUNs per year, with most international, IB/ A-levels and private schools having at least one edition. This has created an oversaturated market, where finding participants for one is becoming harder and harder for smaller, niche MUNs. You might think “So why make your own, if it is so hard to start?”. I am so glad you asked dear reader.
Towarzystwo Edukacyjne Vizja International School (further referred to as Vizja) is a relatively small school near the Arkadia shopping mall. As the students of this school we always are interested in events going on in Warsaw, especially ones that may in small ways improve our world. MUNs are another one of these initiatives. We hope to look create TEVMUN from another point of view, as we have seen multiple previous MUNs be good, yet miss on a few fronts.
Primarily, we benefit from the conference being small, allowing every single participant to get to know each other, since that is one of our favourite parts of MUNs – the community aspect. Furthermore, we want to make the event enjoyable, so we have already gotten a sponsor to ensure that happens. On that note, our venue (the Vizja Park Campus) is close to everything, since buses, trams, trains and the metro reach our school. Finally, we believe the ideas are the most important ingredient in cooking up a bombastic first edition of a Model United Nations, so we will closely collaborate with the future chairs so the topics are novel and not over-done.
We hope this article will persuade you to at least checking out our page; however, if you dare, you might even try applying for the chair application, since they are open until May. We will not reveal all our cards yet, as we have a plethora of surprises waiting. So what is stopping you?
TEVMUN24′ is coming to you September 13 through 15, 2024!
